Xochimilco seasonal attractions

Xochimilco seasonal attractions will cover this year a concert, pulque tasting, axolotl encounter, flower nursery, and food on a trajinera tour through Xochimilco.

“Live life to the fullest, for even death appreciates a taste of it!” The canals of Xochimilco and Cuemanco will open their waters to embark on a unique experience. During the days of October 14, 15, 21, 22, 28, 29, and November 1 and 2, you can attend this tour where you will enjoy traditional Mexican food, drinks, an axolotl sanctuary, a marigold flower nursery, and a concert on a chinampa.

The cost will be $1,200 for children aged 4 to 10 and $1,500 for those 11 years and older. Reservations are required with at least one week’s notice, either via direct message at 55 3407 9440 or through the social media of Sound Travel.

The tour will begin by boarding the colorful trajinera of Isac Ramírez, a chinampero and owner of the Seven Conejos chinampa. Here, you will taste traditional Mexican sweets prepared by artisans from Santa Cruz Acalpixca, one of the 14 native towns of Xochimilco, while you learn about the history of this iconic paradise in Mexico City. “Let’s eat and drink, for tomorrow we may die…”

During your trajinera journey, you will be treated to a seasonal menu specially crafted by the traditional cooks of the municipality, as well as a special dessert from the chef of Petit Gateau Café. Following this feast, your first stop will be at an axolotl sanctuary, where you will learn more about this amphibian and the contributions of the chinamperos to conserve this endangered species.

Moreover, it’s time to drink! Onboard the trajinera, Diana de Villa and Ulises Orozco, a pair of entrepreneurs, will guide you through a tasting of pulques flavored with seasonal delights such as marigold flowers and bread of the dead. They will toast to facts, myths, and realities surrounding this divine beverage. “With flowers, they welcome us, and among them, they bid us farewell.”

Once again on the trajinera, you will savor craft beers prepared in the Xochimilco region. Meanwhile, you will be taken to a marigold flower nursery. Here, the floriculturists will provide an explanation about the origin and use of the seasonal flower for the Day of the Dead.

Finally, the tour will conclude with a live concert at sunset, the last of Xochimilco seasonal attractions; featuring Elo Vit, who will be dressed as a Catrina and will blend seasonal songs with her own compositions.
