The way the Catrinas go

One of the activities organized for Dia de Muertos this year will be a Grand Procession of Catrinas. And where? The best possible spot: on Reforma!

The walk of Catrinas will take place on October 23, will start at 11:00 in the morning and will last 7 hours. The departure point will be Angel de la Independencia, following Reforma, Avenida Juarez and finishing on Zocalo.

Addtionally, to revive the economy, there will be two parades for the Dia de Muertos, of which the one of 23 of October is the first one.

Do you know why Catrina became one of the most recognized symbols of Mexicn culture? Jose Guadalupe Posada was the first one who depicted death this way, as a caricaturized figure laughing of the privileged classes of Mexico. As the artist said: “Death is democratic, at the end, doesn’t matter, blond, dark, rich or poor, we all finish as a skull”.

Cartina became an indispensable symbol of altars, offerings, and now, parades.
