Reasons why people are moving to Mexico

In recent years, we have seen that Mexico in general, and Mexico City (CDMX) in particular, has welcomed thousands of migrants from various parts of the world, who are seeking options and life opportunities to live in the country. Many of them have been welcomed with open arms, while others have found it a bit more challenging, and surely there are those who have struggled greatly to adapt. In any case, here are some of the reasons why people are moving to Mexico:

The general perception among migrants is that Mexico offers a better quality of life than their own countries. And it’s true, although life is not easy anywhere, in Mexico there are still many opportunities to acquire housing, and food and public services are more accessible to foreigners than in their own countries, in addition to the fact that their incomes, especially when they come from the north, are higher than those of a Mexican.

Moreover, people are moving to Mexico because they don’t pay as much for basic necessities, and their incomes are not affected by rising costs that they cannot avoid, especially property taxes.

Gastronomy. Undoubtedly, our country offers a large variety of fresh and healthy foods available at affordable prices. Additionally, fresh foods are available year-round, unlike in other countries where the climate does not allow for cultivation, resulting in higher prices or processed foods. In Mexico, it’s not necessary to spend all of one’s salary on healthy meals.

In places like the United States, Canada, and Western Europe, taxes have been steadily increasing over the past decade, to the point where they now constitute a significant portion of personal budgets. But in Mexico, property and community taxes have not outpaced inflation, and maintenance costs are lower. In short, in other parts of the world, owning a home is very complicated; just as it is for Mexicans to own a home or find a place to rent.

In terms of climate, Mexico is a land of three climates. In cities like CDMX, Cuernavaca, Tlaxcala, Guanajuato, or the entire central region, it is possible to enjoy a temperate climate year-round. Additionally, it is possible to visit the ocean in just 4 hours with beautiful beaches, unlike places like the United States where the coasts are far away and properties are already unaffordable.

Routine medical care, specialized services, and medications cost less in Mexico. Compared to other countries, Mexico is a paradise for the treatments and care needed; furthermore, there are many options for health insurance.

Another reason that is a bit difficult for us to accept is that foreigners consider living in Mexico to be safe. It is true that it is a country in transition, with many cases of violence, drug cartels, and other ills. But this does not usually happen as much with tourists or foreigners living in the country.

Other reasons why people are moving to Mexico: American and Canadian families arriving in Mexico can find many private and international schools in popular expatriate locations. Schools are bilingual and fees are lower than in the rest of North America. Parents value the unique cultural experience their children gain from living in a foreign country. The lower cost of living also means that many families enjoy a better quality of life and can spend more time together.
