Historical Walks in September

From Reforma and the Torre Mayor to an ancient synagogue in the Center. The Historical Walks of September can surprise us.

It’s tempting to stroll like a tourist in our own city, and if you want to do so, a great way is with the Historical Walks. These are an initiative of the Ministry of Culture of Mexico City, and their goal is to promote the cultural heritage of our city. These guided tours are free and take place every Sunday at 10:45 am at various points in the capital.

During September, on the Historical Walks, you will travel back in time, from visiting the Hippocrates building and contemplating the importance of IMSS on Paseo de la Reforma to the Ancient Synagogue Justo Sierra. If you want to learn new things in the spaces where they happened, check out these tours.

Under the Oath of Hippocrates

On Sunday, September 10th, you will be visiting Paseo de la Reforma. There are at least four buildings that will be emphasized: the Ministry of Health, the IMSS Building, the Torre Mayor, and the Torre BBVA. Two of them are engineering marvels, and the others have enormous historical and architectural significance. To participate, you should look for the guides at the Estela de Luz, next to the Puerta de los Leones in Chapultepec.

Historical Walks: Guadalupan Similarities

To the north of the city, there are structures with a rich history and cultural significance. That’s why on September 17th, you will explore the Acueducto de Guadalupe, the Parque del Mestizaje, and the Pueblo de Santa Isabel Tola. Religious traditions are also a part of our culture (especially our popular culture), and it’s definitely worth getting to know them. The meeting point is at Parque del Mestizaje, at Insurgentes and Cantera, Gustavo A. Madero borough.

They came beyond the sea

In the Historic Center, you can find one of the most beautiful and ancient synagogues, the Historic “Justo Sierra”. The synagogue will be one of the stops on this Sunday’s tour. You will also visit the Temple of Santa Teresa la Nueva and Plaza Loreto. The meeting point is at Plaza Loreto, between Justo Sierra and Loreto streets, in the Historic Center. It will be a very spiritual and interesting tour that you should attend.
