Organized by MXCity and featuring stunning photos by MAP CDMX, the parade has become a beloved event that captivates the imagination of millions of people each year.

What are alebrijes?

Alebrijes, the centerpiece of the parade, are handcrafted and artistic creations that have gained widespread popularity over the years. These imaginative creatures have become synonymous with the festival, which continues to grow in scale and originality. Each year, spectators are treated to a spectacle of vibrant and colorful animals parading through the streets of Mexico City. It’s an experience that not only delights the senses but also provides the perfect opportunity to capture incredible photographs for your social media feed.

The artistry behind alebrijes lies in the hands of Mexican artisans who dedicate themselves to showcasing their boundless creativity year after year. These skilled craftsmen hail from various regions, including Oaxaca, Puebla, Hidalgo, Tlaxcala, and beyond. Their ingenuity is on full display as they breathe life into these mythical creatures, bringing joy to the hearts of onlookers.

The famous Monumental Parade of Alebrijes

The traditional parade, a vibrant tapestry of Mexican culture, is a feast for the eyes and ears. Drumming groups provide infectious rhythms, while gymnastic displays showcase the athleticism and grace of the performers. Elaborate floats glide through the streets, adorned with intricate designs and accompanied by a procession of alebrijes. The parade kicks off at the Zócalo and winds its way through the city center, traversing iconic avenues such as 5 de Mayo, Juárez, and Paseo de la Reforma. The journey culminates at the Glorieta del Ángel de la Independencia, where the festivities reach their climax.

Following the parade, the alebrijes continue to delight audiences as they remain on display for at least two weeks. Positioned on the north and south sidewalks of Paseo de la Reforma, between the Glorieta del Ángel de la Independencia and the Diana Cazadora, they serve as a reminder of the enchanting experience that the parade brings to the city.
