Guinness World Record in Tacos

CDMX has a new Guinness World Record with the highest number of tacos served in less than an hour, totaling 6,200 tacos.

Thanks to 100 taquerias from 16 districts, CDMX can now boast a new world record in the Taco Festival.

The Tacos, Tacos Festival promised to have the highest concentration of taquerias and a variety of one of the world’s most diverse and delicious dishes, and it certainly delivered. In addition, it set a new Guinness World Record for the most tacos served. This is how Mexico City achieved this new Guinness record, thanks to tacos.

In this 1st edition of Tacos, Tacos: The Mexico City Taco, organized by the Mixed Tourist Promotion Fund, which took place at the Monument to the Revolution esplanade, 6,200 tacos were prepared in one hour.

This event was led by the Director General of the Mixed Tourist Promotion Fund of Mexico City, Christian Leslie García Romero, and the Secretary of Tourism, Nathalie Desplas Puel, who celebrated, along with thousands of attendees, the historic achievement of breaking this record.

“For us, it was very important to set a high-impact record with the people, and what better way to do it than with tacos. We managed to surpass the goal of five thousand tacos as the limit,” he said.

This feast began at 12:00 PM and involved the participation of over 100 taquerias from the 16 districts, invited to showcase and offer their best products to the public who, during that hour, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, enjoyed tacos with the most diverse flavors of the Mexico City dish: pastor, suadero, campechanos, carnitas, stewed, among others, all for free.

By breaking the record for the number of tacos served within an hour, thousands of diners participated in this feat, thanks to the involvement of 100 popular taquerias from one of the 16 districts of the capital, and the attendees tasted tacos made with a wide variety of ingredients.

The best part was that attendees at the taco banquet didn’t have to pay anything to savor the delicious little tacos. In addition to this record for Mexico City, there was a competition to find the fastest stomach that could eat the most tacos in a short amount of time. The winner managed to eat 20 tacos in a 25-minute period.

The best taquerias were also awarded, with El Taco Loco emerging as the fastest, and in the category of the best salsa of the evening, the one prepared by Los Cuñados’ establishment received recognition from the attendees, as the recipe is based on árbol chili and several secret ingredients.

Despite the record having already been broken, there is a waiting period for the event to be officially registered on the Guinness World Records foundation’s official website, and for the staff to verify that everything was done according to the rules stipulated in the famous record book. Once everything is confirmed, the official recognition will be awarded.
